Papua New Guinea’s Golden Jubilee: Residents Appreciate Good Relations with Indonesia

PAPUA NEW GUINEA, INFONESIA24.COM – This year, Papua New Guinea is celebrating its 50th Independence Day, or Golden Jubilee. This special celebration will be enlivened by the people of Sandaun Province with various activities such as traditional singing and dancing, canoe races, speeches, musical performances, and community events.

Papua New Guinea’s Independence Day is celebrated every September 16th, commemorating the country’s separation from Australia in 1975. This commemoration is also a national holiday synonymous with cultural activities and flag-raising ceremonies throughout the country.

One local resident, Nila, expressed her hope that the momentum of the 50th anniversary celebration will encourage the government to increase funding for priority sectors and ensure equitable public services, particularly health and education, even in remote areas.

Furthermore, Nila also expressed her pride in Papua New Guinea’s good relations with Indonesia. According to him, cooperation between the two countries, particularly in education, trade, and border access, has brought significant benefits to the people of Sandaun Province.
